Sprinkles Cupcakes

Let me do a little bit of free advertising here, featuring Sprinkles.

The first time I saw a Sprinkles cupcake, I knew I was in for a great surprise. This indulgent treat sends sparks to my taste buds and satisfies my sweet tooth. About 6 months ago, Sprinkles shared its secrets with the world and launched canned cupcake mixes of 3 flavors: Vanilla, Chocolate, and Red Velvet.

While Sprinkles cupcakes are normally $3.25 each. You can make your very own homemade cupcakes for around $1.50 per cupcake (including the mix, butter, milk, eggs, powdered sugar, vanilla). With these savings, the quality of the cupcake is comparable and much more affordable.

I tried it myself this weekend and I was pretty satisfied with the results. I especially love refrigerating the cupcakes because the frosting hardens and the texture is more pleasing when you bite into the cupcake.

Just be careful you don't eat too many. Between you and me, the recipe (for 12 cupcak
es) calls for 3 sticks of butter total. So take it easy.

Edible Cocktails

Have you ever taken a jello shot at a college house party? You probably downed them in those oversized mini dixie cups. Now that we're older and more "mature" and "sophisticated," why not glamor it up a bit? The idea of edible cocktails reminds me of a cross between Charlie and the Chocolate Factory's 3-course dinner gumballs and the glass art Chihuly exhibit at the De Young. Think fashion jello shots.

It looks like it's the next big thing at trendy restaurants in LA and Paris. Maybe the next time you have a house party, turn your pad into an LA hot spot and serve these edible cocktails on a fancy silver platter.

Cold Stone Creamery - Cupcakes
Did you know Cold Stone launched cupcakes? I've been trying to do some research, but there are not too many legitimate articles about this. Originally, the cupcakes launched around Valentines Day @ 9.99 for a 6-pack, up until March 31. It looks like the cupcakes are still available (or they are at least still featured on their website), but I'm unsure of the current price point. In any case, these little ice cream cupcakes look delicious. And according to foodbusiness.net, they contributed to the company's double digit sales increase...winners!

Next up for Cold Stone? Ice blended coffees, ice cream sandwiches?
